WE'RE BACK! AND WE'RE...
..ON WEDNESDAY, 10TH AUGUST 2022!
We didn't so much as enjoy the short break we had, as managed to get through it!
We love the family and the extended family and the in-laws and the nieces and the nephews and their friends and the grandchildren and their friends but it's always nice to know that we can hand them back at the end of the day.
But they were on their holliers and we were supposed to be, too, so sleep-overs and day trips and shopping expeditions and exploring nature trails and day excursions and picnics to Corkagh Park and the Phoenix Park and St Annes Park can be extra 'interesting' (!) when there's five or six adults 'in charge' of between ten and maybe twenty children of all ages, with some (grumpy!) teenagers among that number!
Anyway - as stated, we got through it.
Phew...!
And we somehow managed to find the time to put a blog post together for Wednesday, 10th August next, in which we'll be writing about the following :
In 1924, the remaining original members of the pre-Civil War Irish Republican Army Executive (that is those of them who had opposed and fought against the Treaty of Surrender in 1921), together with the co-opted members of the Executive during the Civil War (about 26 people in all), met secretly to review the past and decide policy for the Movement for the future...// From 1955 - "The important thing is that Churchill is going, but his going will bring no big changes in England's attitude to Ireland, just as his coming made no changes...".
These two brave Irish rebels met their end together on the gallows of Wandsworth Prison ; they were repatriated to Ireland and reburied in the Republican Plot in Deansgrange Cemetery in Dublin in 1967...// This signatory to the 1921 Treaty later changed his mind re that document but it was too late...// In 19th Century Ireland, this man's fame as an author grew but fame and fortune didn't change him, politically - if anything, it gave him access to a 'society' he otherwise would not have had social contact with and he availed of those interactions to promote Irish republicanism...
Catholic clergy who were 'banished from Ireland' by the British were half-hanged, disembowelled while still living, and then quartered if caught again on Irish soil...// This FSA Major-General was 'sacked' by Leinster House in 1924 - they had practically signalled their intention to do so in 1922...// - all the above, and more, plus a few 'Short Stories' mentioning activities between 1719 and 1922, will be posted here, on Wednesday, 10th August, 2022.
So check back with us then, if ya can, but we reckon we'll survive if ya can't be bothered. After all, we made it through the above 'holiday'...!
