AN IRISH REBEL, HIS WIFE, AND THEIR DAUGHTER...
We'll be posting at least sixteen pieces here on Wednesday, 21st January, 2026, mentioning various political and military instances and incidents that took place in Irish history between the 1840's and the early 2000's, but one of them in particular has thrashed and crushed me, personally, and fairly mopped the floor with the two lads, too. We can't get it out of our heads.
This dreadful incident left the three of us with aching souls and hearts.
Out of the many occurrences that have taken place in Ireland, North, South, East and West as a result of the political and military interference here by Westminster and by their proxies in Leinster House, this is one of the saddest episodes we've come across.
Unimaginable grief.
It's to do with an Irishman, in the 1920's, who rose up against British injustice and was caught and punished by them for doing so. He was a married man, sentenced to death by the British but allowed one last visit from his family.
It was on the way home from that visit that a second tragedy for the family occurred followed by a third tragedy for the family on the very day that the British hangman was oiling the lever...
Heartbreaking.

"TREACHERY!!", THE STATERS ROARED AT THEIR OWN FOR TURNING...
...even though, unfortunately, not enough of them did.
'Ireland, 1920's : the six-year-old British DORA was used again against 'Enemies of the Crown' but, this time, Westminster's 'police force' in Ireland were to be allowed 'first refusal' in order to help circumvent any legalities that might arise further down the line...'
- that's the bare bones (almost!) of one of the twenty-two pieces we'll be posting here on Wednesday, 7th January 2026, in our first post of this new year in which, among other years and decades, we'll be referencing Irish history and political pieces from the 1920's, 40's and 70's.
'Ireland, 1920's - this man, 'Mr Murphy', like the rebel leader in whose company he was caught, was an influential and formidable character who inspired fear in the enemy and respect within the ranks of the rebels...'
'Ireland, 1920's - "Treachery!!", the Staters roared, as they realised that some of their own were only keeping company with them to gain access to information, arms and equipment which they passed over to their true comrades in the rebel army...'
'Ireland, 1920 : this loyalist political leader was concerned at the level of resistance to British misrule in the country, particularly in 'his patch' and, being a wealthy, well-connected businessman, set about organising a semi-official grouping, politically and physically armed, and was soon in command of tens of thousands of other anti-Irish elements...'
And there'll be a special mention to our female readers, in regards to a special day for us, in Ireland and abroad because...well, because we ARE special and we deserve it!

Ireland, late 19th Century - this astute young girl witnessed the suffering around her, in her family and in her neighbourhood but she couldn't just accept it as her lot.
The astute young girl grew into a questioning teenager and, finally, into a "troublesome woman", which she remained for the rest of her life, working in the rebel movement alongside other "troublesome women..."
We'll be posting the details of that "troublesome woman" and her equally troublesome (!) colleagues on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, along with about eighteen other pieces, all connected with Irish history and Irish politics, from today and yesterday - all 32 Counties!
And if yer not interested in troublesome Irish women (...but ya are, aren't ya..?!), then what about this -
Westminster, 1900's - "Two separate parliaments" for Ireland was brought up in a discussion that British politicians were having about Ireland. The Loyalists in Ireland 'boxed clever' and turned the conversation into one about three particular counties in Ireland which would more than likely scupper that plan...
...but if that doesn't whet yer appetite..well, there's somethin' major wrong with ya - sure who, with an interest in our history, wouldn't want to know which three Irish counties were deemed troublesome (see wha' I done there?!) by Irish people who supported a foreign political entity?!
However...if yer still hesitant about checking back with us on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, then maybe this will entice ya -
"The West's Awake..." - awake, that was, to the scheme attempted, in the early 1900's by local politicians in the west of Ireland, to spike the freedom struggle and sow dissent within the Republican Movement. But when the facts and figures were revealed, the scheme collapsed...
...and if that doesn't do it for ya, we'll also be writing about bombs, bullets and bucks -
1920's, funding the fight - the call from the rebels for 'munition money' was sent out verbally and in leaflets around the country and it was gladly acceded to by a willing public who were being trashed by armed, foreign thugs...

Ireland, 1920's - Crown Force transportation throughout the country was immediately affected by this rebel blow and, when the foreigners were trying to deal with that, two of their ex-or-maybe-not-so-ex comrades, who were out for a ramble in a seaside town, received 'blows' of their own...
1920's, in what was to become - and still is - the Occupied Six Counties : a change of uniform got these rebel fighters in to the British jail, through the 'front door' (for a change), as they needed to pay a visit to some of their fellow rebels in that institution...
...and that's just a taster ; there'll be skin-on-the-bones of them, and about ten other pieces, on Wednesday, 4th June 2025.

And those words, those comments, those expressions of exasperation, were directed at his own people, particularly at one of his own 'legally recognised' para-military groups in Ireland...
Who was that leadership figure?
Which pro-British grouping was it directed at?
What exactly did he say...?

More than 20 years ago in this State, a huge financial windfall fell into the laps of the citizens which, if utilised properly, could have quite literally insulated, financially, every citizen and every service in the 26-County State. But the politicians in Leinster House got involved and chaos ensued, in which only the 'Golden Circle' benefitted...
Ireland, 1920's - the same as today in 2025 in that it's not always those who cast a vote that effect change so much as those who count the votes cast...
Ireland, 1920's - who was this man, who was held hostage by the British, as 'bait', in a doorway in Dublin, in the belief that a 'bigger fish' would be caught? He suffered, physically, during that period, because he believed in the Cause he was suffering for. Then he decided to inflict similar suffering on those who had stood beside him, those who had and were suffering as he once did, those who had guarded his back during those lean years...
Dublin, 1920's - part of the city was closed off by the British and those within the affected zone were detained and searched. Every premises was turned over, every car searched, every pocket turned out, every handbag emptied out. Then, on the second day...

DROPPING OFF SOME GOODIES ON THE 18TH...
..Wednesday the 18th December 2024, that is..
...but not, unfortunately, the best 'Goodie' that we wish we were delivering - a United Ireland.
And as sure as the 18th and the 25th will come, so will our best Goodie!
But, for now, yis will have to make do with the dozen-or-so pieces that we'll be posting here on Wednesday, 18th December, 2024, included in which will be the full script for the following pieces -
In the late 19th Century, before the working-class were properly unionised (...some would say they still aren't today, as the trade unions are staffed by mostly careerists, who see their careers on the opposite side of the negotiating table. And, in our opinion, the "some" that say that would be right!), the workers in this particular industry got together and formed themselves into a sort of 'representative body' which didn't hold back when it came to 'negotiating'. But then they were infiltrated and betrayed...
Ireland, 1919 - perhaps it was an 'affair of the heart', or guilt about how he had conducted himself, or maybe his British Army comrades were pushing him to be more 'macho' in his dealings with the Irish...? But, whatever it was, the only way out that he could apparently see was a farewell note and a long walk off a short pier...
Westminster, 1919 - figures were announced by a top politician in relation to their 'spending', financially and militarily ('man power'), in Ireland : a shocking amount for both which, considering Britain itself was societally in the doldrums, should have made them think twice but, apparently, didn't faze them one bit...
In reference to an article from 2002 - "...one of the main differences between the unvetted and illegal Irish in America, who are willing - indeed, anxious - to earn their keep and not be a burden or a threat to the American people, and the fake and/or dangerous so-called 'refugees' who are, at the time of writing, in this State in their tens of thousands, leeching off the abilities of State taxpayers, overpowering the indigenous Irish and our whole social welfare system and destroying us societally..."

We've almost pieced together a 16-part post for Wednesday, 23rd October 2024, one of which will be mentioning a rather well-got young Toff in Dublin, in the 18th Century who, wanting to maintain his 'Toffness' (!) decided, with his equally-well-got circle of friends, to use a business he owned for non-business-like purposes.
They had familial connections with the British military and, believing that their 'status in society' was under threat from Irish rebels, availed of those connections to pinpoint targets whom they considered to be a danger to their so-called social standing.
The well-got group then took it on themselves to 'branch out', and soon enough any 'scruff/vagabond' that they lifted off the street was taken back to the business premises and 'interrogated'...
Also from our Dublin files we'll have a few paragraphs about a still-unresolved shooting in Dublin in the 1920's during which two armed men walked into a shop and shot the shopworker dead.
Westminster-appointed 'officials' in Dublin immediately blamed the IRA for the shooting, but the owners of the shop challenged them on that claim...
And, from the 1920's as well, but not in Dublin, we'll be saying a few words about a rebel ambush on British forces which was discussed in the British Parliament in the week after it happened but, instead of inspiring those British politicians towards the notion of actually removing their troops out of harms way - ie considering a military and political withdrawal from Ireland - they were belied into believing that the 'solution' was to present the rebels with even more targets, albeit better armed ones...
That's just three of the sixteen pieces we'll be writing about on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024 - so, if'n ya don't wannabe 'Piece 17', y'all get yer ass back here then, and read about someone else's misfortune...!

Westminster, late 1960's - an attempt to mislead world interest about 'an incident' in Ireland was only hours away from being made, and the British propagandists behind their oak desks were holding their last meeting before the 'big reveal'. They were somewhat nervous, but confident, as this wasn't their first such rodeo...
Westminster, 1900's - communication between high-ranking British Government politicians showed that they considered practically any offer to the Irish rebels to be 'a bridge too far' : "It would break-up our government..."
'Money, money, money' : a 20th Century 'cat and mouse game' between the British and their military and political agents in Ireland, England and further abroad and the military and political agents of the Irish 'dissidents' - but more than money was at stake, and both sides knew it...
..and thirteen other pieces (..well, fourteen, really, but in the last one we'll be mentioning a date in the near future!)

DUBLIN, EARLY 2000's - AN OFFICIAL REPORT AND A FRIGHTENING STATISTIC...
('16 FOR [4] 25'!)
'This funeral procession in Dublin, in the 1900's, which was organised by a republican-gamekeeper-turned-Free State-poacher, was witnessed by media from throughout the world and attended by tens of thousands of Irish men and women, some of whom were armed, some of whom were in the uniform of the rebels, and shots were fired in the graveyard.
Newspaper reports of the burial conveyed to the world the message that the Irish rebels were far from the 'spent force' that the British were insinuating...'
That's a few lines about one of the 16-part post pieces that we'll be writing about here on Wednesday, 25th September 2024 : and sure here's another two 'samplers' for ya -
'From the 1900's - this industrial storeroom in the South-East of Ireland was used by a business to warehouse the equipment it needed for day-to-day operations, including explosives. The British monitored it closely, as did the Irish rebels, but the local British Army regiment were uneasy that the munitions there could "fall into the wrong hands". So they sent some of their men in to remove any items which could be used against them, but that operation didn't go according to their plan...'
'Dublin, Ireland, early 2000's - an official report indicated that, within about a three-year time span, one-fifth of the population in the city would br foreign born, a statistic welcomed by at least one foreign journalist...'

IRELAND, 1900's - VOLUNTEERS HANDPICKED AS ASSASSINS.
The IRA leadership were aware that not all Volunteers would be capable of doing what they were about to be asked, and made it clear that no shame would attach to a refusal - that those that weren't prepared to go that far 'down in the mire' would be tasked elsewhere.
A core group put themselves forward, after their objective was explained, and their contact details were collected.
A second grouping of Volunteers, to operate as 'stand-ins', was organised to supplement the first group, when required, and .38's were exchanged for .45's...
...and that's just one of the eighteen pieces we'll be writing about, on Wednesday, 18th September 2024.
To our eternal shame, our impropriety and our dishonor, this fine Irish rebel woman was buried in a paupers plot in the 19th century. Despite the public pain and disappointment she endured, and the reasons she endured that suffering, she was discarded.
Mea culpa...
Wrestling with deaf dragons and gorillas who know nothing and care nothing in 19th century Ireland - rogues, called out by a 'toff' with 'royal' blood with a green tint...
England, 19th century - their 'Irish problem' had, once again, being brought to their doorstep as a result of 'suspicions the authorities had that these Irishmen were about to commit an offence'. The 'court case', such as it was, went ahead, even though the verdict had already been decided...
As stated, we have an 18-part post almost ready for Wednesday, 18th September 2024 : sure the only thing we ain't got yet is a promise from yerself that you'll pop-in then, but ya will, won't ya...?!

County Clare, 1920's - was the meeting in a pub between the IRA representative and the 'Special Branch' man an arranged rendezvous or was it by chance?
Was the 'Branchman' lured there by the promise of meeting an informer, or in the hope of recruiting one?
Was the IRA man a 'double agent' meeting his 'handler'?
So many questions, so many permutations...but not too long to wait until they are answered.
...or will they be answered..?

County Louth, 1920's - "Incidentally, one of the IRA/NFE Volunteers was apparently recognised by one of the wounded RIC members, but no such charge was brought against him ; the RIC member knew that there would be a price to pay for doing so..."
Ireland, Austria and Mexico, and an Irish political and military 'Godfather' - a story spanning from the 19th Century into the 20th Century, involving an Irish connection, of course (!), and money and guns...and one woman in particular...
...but we'll say no more for now : we'll be haulding our wheesht (!) on the above, and ten other stories, until Wednesday, 21st August 2024.

Ireland, 1920's - an IRA ambush on an RIC patrol results in the death of one of the RIC members (an ex-'Royal Marine') who had only joined the RIC weeks earlier.
Two ex-British Army soldiers were 'arrested' by the Crown Forces and charged with the shooting but, try as they did, the British couldn't get any evidence against their two ex-comrades and they were acquitted and released.
But RIC members in the 'courtroom' weren't in agreement with that verdict, one of them in particular, who had earned a reputation for himself as a thug, a bully, who was quick to rage, and he was raging...and, after he and his pals arranged an ambush of their own, he had to flee the country.
Bet he was raging...
...and that's just one of the 20-or-so pieces we'll be writing about on Wednesday, 24th July 2024, on the blog.

In the 1920's, this man fought tooth-and-nail for the implementation of an Irish republican agenda in a 32-County Ireland, and fought viciously, on a full time basis, for six years, to achieve that objective.
But his political and military 'about face' caught his (ex-)IRA comrades on the hop, and his direct actions personally caused hundreds of people the loss of a loved one.
He lived for a few hours after he happened to meet, by chance, some of the brave men he had described as 'criminals' ; hopefully, he was lucid enough to ponder on all his sins...
In the 1920's, these voluntary 'servants of the Crown' in Ireland were left in no doubt that their servitude was not appreciated by all - those they served were happy to have them on board their imperialist wagon and 'bigged them up', socially, as they knew that was reward enough for them...
This 'Hardman for the Crown' in the Donegal area had forged a reputation for himself among his peer group as a man to be admired : however, those outside that group decided to 'pepper him' into realising that their were others who though less kindly of his actions...
On Wednesday, 10th July 2024, we'll be posting a 26-part blog post in which we'll put the finishing touches and a lot more detail to the above three pieces, and we'll be doing the same to twenty-three other articles. We had hoped to get to a 32-piece posting, but sure yis are all Free Staters out there so 26 should make ye feel at home...!

Ireland, 1921 - this US citizen was in Ireland to visit his brother. A Crown Force patrol was heading his way but he had the sense to make himself scarce, as he knew what they were capable of, as did other people in the area. But they found him - he never made it back to America alive...
1921, Belfast - three men were taken away by 'renegade' British forces and their bodies were found the next day. A well-known and feared RIC man, with a 'gung-ho' family history, was found to be involved, and he in turn was linked to a better-known uniformed thug. His 'nixers' came back to haunt him...
Mr de Valera was, he said, thinking of this particular policy since 1921, it was raised by others in 1925 but he said nothing. Then, in 1926, he tried to introduce it as his own policy...
Ireland, 1921 - these fighters left the IRA to join the Free State Army but quickly realised they were in the minority and couldn't actually contain their former comrades, who were still striking against the British military presence. So those former republicans turned to the British Army and asked them for help to control the IRA...
In 1919, this Galway man left his job in the British Navy and moved 'inland', for the same employer. He hunted down the IRA for Westminster and, by chance, cycled into an IRA ambush position one day and was recognised for what he was. 'Plan A' didn't work out for the Volunteers, so the ex-Navy man became 'Plan B'...
...the above pieces are snapshots of just five of the 23 articles we'll be writing about on the blog on Wednesday, 12th June 2024, with 'ner a mention of the elections, which are (rightly) dominating the airwaves here.
...and speaking of elections (!), t'was on the 12th June in the year 1741 that a by-election was held here, following the death of 'Sir' Walter Dixon Borrowes.
It was won by a 'Lord' Ophaly (later '1st Duke of Leinster'), but that was really secondary - the real action took place on the (political) duelling field, between a Mr William Paul Warren and a Mr Jack Hardy, which led to Mr Hardy's right hand and arm being shattered ; the 'vote' in favour of amputation was strong...!

And we're back!
...and we were right about the family gig that kept us out of action last Wednesday : it took the two days before it to properly finalise it, and three days after it to recover from it.
As expected, when ya have two football-team-full of immediate family members to help organise, plus the 'subs', the back-room 'staff' and - of course - the 'fans'!
Anyway - we're working on a 15-part blog post that we should have ready for Wednesday, 15th May 2024, for all you refs and hawkeye's (!) out there to scrutinise, including a few more paragraphs on all of the following -
In the 1920's, two members of the Crown Forces were surrounded in a wooded area by IRA Volunteers and executed but, as they were leaving the scene, the Volunteers were noticed by a local girl who had spoken to the British about what she witnessed. She knew questions were being asked about her and, true enough, a knock came to her door. But...
1900's - a conference, held abroad, was thought to be the perfect venue for Irish republicans to make their case for Irish freedom but, five months into it, they realised that the cards were stacked against them...
1920's - a love-letter (not!), on branded notepaper that the recipient themselves used, was dropped through letterboxes quoting a Biblical verse.
But those that delivered those missives soon had reason to read the words themselves...
1920's - British military and paramilitary 'hawks and doves' in Ireland squawked at each other when the big vulture in Westminster played 'favourites'...
1920's - on this, the second attempt on his life, his attackers were successful. All involved were IRA Volunteers, but the real reason for the attack remains shrouded in half-truths, rumour and/or purposeful misdirection. Or does it...?

From 1955 - 'Westminster's apparent determination to claim the Irish race and nation as British is an indication of their grudging respect and secret admiration for us...'
1918 - British military conscription in Ireland, IRA membership increases ; but not for the best...

We're working on another 17-part post for Wednesday, 20th December 2023, and I'm told - despite the Christmas distractions - it'll be ready to go by then (Ho! Ho! Ho!).
Among the 17 occurrances we'll be posting about is one in which, over one hundred years ago, a shopkeeper in Dublin received some callers he didn't welcome whereas they, in turn, welcomed the opportunity to pay him a visit. He gets a mention in two of our pieces, so popular was he, apparently...!
In 1919, Westminster decided to send one of its top paramilitary operatives to Dublin, with a 'hit team' he picked himself, to sort out the damned Irish rebels in Dublin ; it was hoped that he could 'chop the head off the snake' and he thought he could do it, too. On a fine day in December, he ventured out into the city centre, probably to do some Christmas shopping, but he got more than he could afford to pay for...
This man was over in London, representing the Irish Republican Movement but, on his return to Dublin, he wasn't representing the Movement anymore...

But they were caught, imprisoned, "escaped from custody", caught again, and sentenced to death. But, when the media attention had been focussed elsewhere...
