GEARING-UP FOR OUR FIRST POST IN 2022...

ATHBHLIAIN FAOI MHAISE DUIT!

We're putting together an 8-part post (one of which, our 'Short Stories' piece, will itself cover eleven such 'shorts') for...

We'll be writing about a lady, her husband and her son, who were all members of Paddington Conservative Club ; a bust of Winston Churchill stood on their mantlepiece and in the children's bedroom two Union Jacks were pinned on the wall yet, in desperation - and with no proof whatsoever - the British police imprisoned them for being IRA bombers.

In Ireland, in 1921, train travel was bad for your health if you wore a British Army uniform and tried to act the cod.

In 1922, three republican operatives were told by a British 'court' that they were to be 'hung by the neck until dead' in 29 days time but - on day 28 - they were told that there had been a change in plan.

Of these two particular 'liftings' by the IRA in 1923, one was a case of mistaken identity.

A 1976 speech from a British Prime Minister centered on "imposing" a solution on Ireland, but he forgot to mention that which had already been imposed by Westminster.

..and a 'Happy Birthday' to this Irish musician...

See you on Wednesday, 12th January 2022!

Thanks for reading,

Sharon.
